Spirit is Evelyn’s song, written on guitar. There was a period when a number of people likened her voice to Jewel’s (???) so somewhat perversely Eve sat down and wrote a song with the same title as Jewel’s second album to prove she didn’t. The song is about the power of music. We tried any number of arrangements for this and in the end went with Andy’s lush strings.
lyrics
Beneath every song there’s a spirit
And the spirit lies in you
Beneath every word there’s a meaning
And I’m meaningless without you
So I’m floating down river
Lost at sea
But you can save me from drowning
Find a meaning inside me
Music touches my soul
It’s my heartbeat the melody stole
For you don’t find music it gets deep inside you
And the spirit won’t let you go.
I move with the feel of the rhythm
Cos I’ve felt the warmth so long
Inspired in a world without beauty
For the beauty lies in song
So I’m lifted on high
I’ve found my wings
And I leave all the hurt behind me
Helped by the words that I sing
Music touches my soul
It’s my heartbeat the melody stole
For you don’t find music it gets deep inside you
And the spirit won’t let you go.
